Streaming Instructions

System Requirements: You must be using a PC - this version of the program will not work on the Macintosh.

The recommended specifications are:

  • Operating System: Windows 95/98, NT 4.x, or 2000
  • Processor: Pentium II, 300Mhz Processor or higher
  • RAM: 32 MB or higher
  • Video: 2 MB or more Video RAM
  • Audio: SoundBlaster or Compatible

Because this program streams high-quality video and audio over the Internet, it is necessary for you to have a high-bandwidth connection. Currently, we recommend that only those with extremely fast Internet connections (capable of streaming approx. 550 kbps) attempt to download and install this program. Thus, even if you use a cable modem or satellite service, you still may encounter difficulties in using the program over the Internet.

  • The video portions of this program require that you have QuickTime 5 installed on your computer. This installer will check your computer to see if you have it, and if necessary, will install the program.

  • This installer will only provide you with the necessary files to stream the HIV program over the Internet. Once you have downloaded the installer, do not log off the Internet - you will need to maintain a connection in order to run the program.

  • After downloading, open the Installer file that has been placed on your hard drive. Double-click on the file titled "HIV_Primary_Care.exe". This will access the necessary files on the IML's server, and you can begin your own individualized session of the HIV program.

Once you have entered a user name and have begun your interactive journey through the "virtual clinic", your individual progress is recorded. This means that you can leave whenever you wish, and when you want to resume your session, the program will pick you up exactly where you left off. This enables you to view different aspects of the clinic and proceed through your training at your own leisure.

For more information on installing and using this program, you can view the HIV Virtual Clinic Users Manual on the IML website.
