Michael Robinson

 Michael D. Robinson
Director, Michigan State Police
President, International Association of Chiefs of Police

As Director of the Michigan Department of State Police, he has implemented a complete review and overhaul of the department's organizational structure and service programs. Under his leadership, the Michigan department of State Police has reshaped delivery of the state's law enforcement services, and has become a leader in high-tech crime fighting. Currently, the department is implementing a $187 million Michigan Public Safety Communication System. This system will be the backbone for law enforcement and criminal justice telecommunications well into the next century.

Colonel Robinson is helping to shape the nation's criminal justice policy as well. He serves as a member of the President's Export Council Subcommittee on Encryption - a presidential advisory committee charged with assisting in the formulation of U.S. encryption policy. The committee provides guidance and makes recommendations on ways to minimize the adverse impact of commercial encryption policy on business while protecting the country's national security and fostering our foreign policy goals.

Colonel Robinson was recently elected to chair a presidential federal advisory committee involving the Global Justice Information Network. The committee's purpose is to guide and monitor the development of a global network which will provide information sharing capabilities for all components of the justice community across all levels of government - local, state national, and international. He is also a member of the Public Safety Wireless Network (PSWN) Senior Advisory Panel. Both projects will enhance communication and cooperation between agencies, as well as improve coordination of information.
